This is a 10-week course including 45 minute one-on-one weekly classes for a total of 10 classes. This course is designed for absolute beginners who have not had any introduction to music and requires no prerequisites. Instructor Shashank Giri is well versed in teaching beginners and has created lesson plans that accommodate all learning styles. This class is designed to accommodate students pursuing a musical career, as well as those seeking a musical hobby.

This course, designed by instructor Shashank Giri, is broken down into four sections for easy learning. In the first section, students will begin with an introduction to the instrument and music. This section will include guidelines detailing how to choose the right instrument for you.
Section two will include lessons covering correct handling and finger placement on the flute as well as basic note practice. This section will continue on to practice playing the notes on the higher end of the register, followed by the lower notes.
In sections three and four, instructor Giri will introduce more advanced concepts of Alankaar. By the end of this course, students can expect to be able to play simple songs on the flute or bansuri with correct fingering and positioning for easy transitioning into the more complex musical forms.
ABOUT THE TEACHER: The talented instructor Shashank Giri is a recording artist, flutist, singer, composer, flute maker, actor and teacher. Giri studied music for over 18 years, beginning with Carnatic vocal, then Carnatic flute and finally into Hindustani classical music and flute under Pt. Venkatesh Godkhindi. As a composer, Giri has a deep inclination toward Devaranama or popularly known as Daasavani and he has composed over 50 devaranamas of different dasas of dasa parampare. Known as one of the finest flute makers in India, Giri’s craftsmanship has earned him many appreciations for his high-quality performance flutes. Students will need to have their own G bass or A bass flute or bansuri for this course. However, instructor Giri suggests all students to contact him for guidance on which instrument is right for them. Students should have pen and paper to take notes, but no other materials are required for this course. Anyone enrolling in this course should ensure they have time in their schedule not only for attending the weekly courses online but also for practicing independently between classes to get the most from this course.
