This long term course is for students who have completed the basics course of tabla. Students through this course delve deeper in tabla playing in hindustani classical style of play. Students enrolling for this course get to learn further about taals. They get introduced to jhap taal and kaidas considered to be compositions that either are pre composed or open to improvisation. Students also learn about nagma in this course. Students by the culmination of this course get a sound understanding of taals, kaidas, able to render the same on the tabla.

This long term course on tabla, teaching students Hindustani classical style of music, advances on what the student had learnt in the basics course. Students delve deeper into teen taal, taal consisting of a 16 beat rhythmic cycle. They then progress to learn kaidas, a type of composition rendered on the tabla. Next up students learn about rela which is the fast maneuvering of bols or the swift rendition of bols on the tabla. Students hereafter get to learn tukra, a swift playing of bols on the tabla that usually is rendered at the end of a solo tabla performance. They also get to practice gat which is a sequence of bols played to denote fixed compositions or cyclic form. Further on in the course students get to learn other types of composition of tabla playing namely chakradhar, suruaat, peshkar. Students heron learn about jhap taal and few kaidas. Progressing ahead students are briefed about nagma and are taught to play the tabla accompanied by a nagma. Students through this course also enhance their bol recital to give them better understanding of the sounds that need to emanate from the tabla.

Her mother a vocalist has been a major influence in the life of the gifted tabla player. Sunayna groomed her tabla playing skills, initially under the guidance of Samar Mitra and later under the renowned tabla exponent, late Pt. Shankar Ghosh of the Farrukhabad gharana and continued training under the guidance of his son tabla maestro Bikram Ghosh. Today Sunayna is a renowned female tabla player who has showcased her talent both in India and abroad. Sunayna’s talent is not restricted to just tabla as she is also trained in Kathak and vocals.
