Tabla Pravesh - Learn the Fundamentals

The highlights of this course include -

Module 1: Introduction of Tabla

• Introduction of Indian Percussion Instruments - India has some of the most ancient percussion instruments catering to the widest range of musical genres from folk to western. This topic will briefly cover all the musical instruments of India, their story of origin, and evolution to this day. 
• Introduction of Tabla - Under this topic, students will learn about tabla - its history and evolution.
• Parts and structure of Tabla - The topic is self-explanatory. You learn about the part of tabla and their roles in creating rhythm. You will also learn to tune the tabla and how to take care of them.

Module 2: Akshar Nikas (Sound production of Bols)

• Basic Bols - Tabla consists of two drums - dayan and bayan. Each drum makes a different sound when the top skin covering is struck by different fingers. These are called bols. 
• The basic bols of Dayan are Na, Tin, Te, Dha. And the bols of Bayan are Ge, Na, Thun, Ke. 
• These bols are the building blocks of tabla compositions and are combined in various ways to create intricate rhythms and melodies.  
• At this level, you will learn to speak the bols and also play them on tabla. 
• Basic phrases in Tabla - After you learn to speak and play the bols on tabla, you learn to create phrases out of the bols for example - Dha-Ge-Na-Ti-Na-Ka-Tin-Na.

About the Teacher

Dr. Atul Raosaheb Kamble is a distinguished Head of Department and Assistant Professor of Tabla at the School of Kalayoga, Chinamaya Vishwavidypeeth, Pune. He serves as a mentor for aspiring scholars as a PhD guide. With a passion for tabla since the age of 11, Atul honed his skills under the tutelage of renowned maestros such as Shri G. D. Badde, Late Shri Pramod Raichurkar, and Pt. Mukesh Jadhav, and currently continues his training under the guidance of Tabla Maestro Pt. Aditya Kalyanpur. Holding a Master’s degree in music from the University of Pune, he was honored with a Gold Medal by Shri K. Shankar Narayanan (Ex-Governor of Maharashtra). Atul has made significant contributions to the field of Indian classical music, both as a performer and educator. He is a sought-after accompanist for esteemed artists and has been teaching Tabla privately as well as at Victorious Kidss Educares, an IB World School in Pune. Alongside his teaching and performances, Atul is a dedicated researcher, having presented and published numerous papers, culminating in his PhD on the life and contributions of Ustad Allarakha. His dedication and talent have earned him prestigious awards such as the Ustad Inam Ali Tabla Vadan Purskar, Pt. Pannalal Ghose Purskar, and Yuva Tabla Vadak.
