Indian Classical Music at the Intermediate Level is a course in expanding knowledge and technique for string players. Students will learn moderately difficult songs and melodies throughout this course, in a number of different genres. First, students will learn compositions in a variety of popular and famous rhythmic patterns, as well as rare ragas of Senia gharana, in the style of Hindustani legend Mian Tansen. Next, students will learn improvisations on classical bandishes, which will allow them to branch out from structured compositions. Finally, folk music and light classical compositions will be taught. This variety in styles and techniques will improve the ability of any student who chooses to enroll in this course.
Students of Pandit Abhik Kumar Sarkar will have the opportunity to learn from an expert musician who has been playing and teaching Indian classical music for over 30 years. Students will be able to build on their existing knowledge and add a variety of songs and methods to their repertoire.

About Pandit Abhik Kumar Sarkar: Notable sarod exponent Pt. Abhik Kumar Sarkar has been playing classical music for most of his life, learning vocals and sarod at an early age from his father. Later, since his childhood he has been learning from Padma Vibhusan Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, under the guru-shishya parampara at New Delhi, India. He also had the opportunity to learn Carnatic Music Ragas from Violin Exponent Shri D. Nageshwaran. One of the finest Sarod players, Abhik developed his own unique style of blending both the Senia gharanas of Sarod. For the last 30 years, Abhik has been performing in India and abroad in festivals and concerts, earning many awards and recognitions such as “Sangeet Shiromani”, “Sangeet Sadhak Samman”, “Tarana Samman (Senior)”, “Swar Kriti” felicitation, Certificate of recognition from Mr. N Bains of the House of Commons, Canada and the Bal Shree National Title by Nehru Bal Samity in New Delhi. He is also empanelled in the “Established Category” by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR),New Delhi in the field of Indian Classical Music – Sarod.
