Rabindrasangeet has a very unique style of singing and therefore it is considered a separate genre. Tagore’s songs have a wide range of musical influences from various Gharana i.e., western classical, Indian folk, Hindustani classical, and Carnatic music.
The songs are classified in different groups as Parjaay in a book named Geetabitan. There are Parjaays like Puja- devotional songs, Prem- love songs, Prakriti- songs of the seasons, Bichitro- rhythmic songs of different moods, Swadesh- patriotic songs, Anushthanik- songs suitable for different occasions, etc.
Tagore’s compositions include Nritya Natya (dance drama) and Geeti Natya (opera). There are a few taals created by Tagore himself which are mainly used in Rabindrasangeet alone.
This online Rabindrasangeet allows beginners to break the ice with a few songs from every ‘parjay’ as explained above. The students will learn to delve into the deeper philosophy that is at the core of every song. Emotion being the primary factor in every Rabindrasangeet, students will also learn to emote while rendering the songs. They will also learn to read notations as it is very unique and different from Hindustani classical music.
