Trumpet Lessons for Beginners, Intermediates & Advanced

This course begins with a conversation between the student and Instructor Strand to assess the learner’s current skill level and help identify goals for the next five months. Students will have the opportunity to choose from a wide-range of topics including tone production and quality, fingering and articulation, keys and scales practice, style and phrasing, embouchure control, players’ endurance, and pro practice techniques and exercises. Students may also choose to explore genres or styles of music.

As a course designed to accommodate beginners as well as advanced level musicians, there are no required prerequisites before enrollment. Students will need pen and paper for notetaking, and time to commit to the weekly lessons as well as independent practice to ensure a successful completion of this course. As a course for all skill levels, the results of successful completion of this course will be highly individualized to each learner. Students may set personalized milestones with their instructor during the first one-on-one session.

About the Instructor: Steve Strand has performed as a trumpetier since 1978 and is a member of an internationally renowned acappella jazz funk horn section named Hornheads. Strand received his education at the University of Minnesota with a major in Music Performance as well as in Jazz Studies and Composition. Strand has worked to record with many artists including Prince, Baby Face, Mandy Moore, Chaka Khan, The Jonas Brothers, Jordan Pruitt, and more. Commercially, Strand has participated in recording jingles for many companies including BMW, Cadillac, Volvo Superbowl, Borden Foods, Jennie O, Target, Macys, CNN, Kare 11 News, Cellular One, WCCO 4 News, First Bank and others. Strand continues to serve the musical community as a founding member of the Valley Music Academy in Stillwater, MN. Today, he continues to teach in his private studio, as well as to students across the globe in his online trumpet lessons.
