About the Course
This is a detailed and hands-on learning opportunity for aspiring sitar players at their intermediate level. These classes include revision of the basics of playing the guitar followed by complex techniques such as:
- Concept of Meend - 2 hours dedicated to concepts and practical training
- Gamak style - 2 hours of theoretical and practical training
- Ragas - 2 hours of conceptual clarity and experiential training on 10 criteria of Ragas
About the Teacher: Pt. Debaprasad Chakraborty is one of the finest Sitar exponents in India. He is recognised as one of the leading performers of the instrument and a messiah of this art form.
Born in a family of musicians, Debaprasad started training at the age of 5 under the guidance of his father Pt. Adhindra Mohan Chakraborty. He also received rigorous training from Pt. Ajay Sinha Roy in the playing style widely known as Baba Alauddin Khan’s “Senia Maihar Gharana”.
He received valuable training from Pandit Gokul Nag of Bishnupur Gharana. Pt. Debaprasad has enriched his music based on the “Dhrupad style”. His creativity, musical wit, and brilliant performance are well taken by his listeners.
Debaprasad Chakraborty is a “TOP Grade" Artist of All India Radio and Television. He has received several private and Government-sponsored awards. A few honours include the “SURMANI'' title from Sur Singar Samsad, Mumbai and the “Sangeet Ratna” title from Bangiya Sangeet Parishad, Kolkata. He has also received a National Fellowship from the Government of India.
