Saxophone for Beginners is a course designed to teach beginner students of all backgrounds the basic fundamentals of saxophone technique. This course takes place online, once weekly, in 30-minutes lessons over the duration of 12 weeks. Saxophone for Beginners was designed to accommodate hobbyists as well as aspiring professional musicians. This course is open to absolute beginners, as well as musicians seeking a thorough review of the basics.

Students enrolled in this course will be given a thorough introduction to the fundamentals of saxophone music and technique. Instructor Christopher Blossom guides learners through many beginners subjects including beneficial practicing habits, how to read musical notes and rhythms, proper posture to support breath control and embouchure, equipment care, handling, and more.
This course will begin with an overview of saxophone anatomy, instrumental functions, proper handling, and instrument care. Once students have become confident with their new instruments, instructor Blossom will begin teaching effective practice methods for maximizing the efficiency of students’ practice time. Developed with the student’s enjoyment in mind, instructor Blossoms’s lesson plan incorporates a variety of music fundamentals so students can begin playing and enjoying their music quickly, thus developing more desire to expand their musical knowledge.
About The Teacher: Christopher Blossom serves as a Master Sergeant with the U.S. Army and holds a Master’a of Music from the University of Michigan, as well as a Bachelor’a of Music from Bowling Green State University. Throughout his musical career, Blossom has studied with many renowned musicians including Jason Berkley, John Sampen, Don Sinta, and Richard Beene. Christopher Blossom has practiced as an independent freelance musician, as well as part of an accompaniment in a wide variety of musical venues. Blossom has performed regularly in the Baltimore/DC area and as a soloist and chamber musician in the Concert Band of the US Army Field Band. Blossom presents a fresh sense of fun and creativity to a classic instrument, stating, “I’ve always been fascinated with creating something out of nothing as well as the collaborative and communicative power of music.”

As a beginners course, there are no required prerequisites before enrollment. Student’s will need pen and paper for notetaking, an instrument of their own, and access to a reliable computer and internet source. To ensure student’s success, those enrolling in this course will need to ensure they have the time not only to commit to the 30-minute weekly online saxophone lessons, but to independent practice sessions required to hone musical skill and develop talent as well.
