About the Teacher
Dr. Veethika Tikoo Wali, hailing from Kashmir, has a strong musical background influenced by the rich vocal and instrumental heritage of the region, which encompasses Sufi, Persian, and Central Asian traditions. She drew inspiration from her mother, Dr. Padmini Tikoo, a renowned Sitar player from Jammu & Kashmir. Dr. Veethika was fortunate to be a disciple of the late Padma Shri Pandit Bhajan Sopori.
Her educational journey includes a Ph.D. in Indian Music from IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University), where she received an on-campus fellowship for her doctoral studies. She also holds a Master's degree in Instrumental Santoor from Miranda House, Delhi University, and Prabhakar and Praveen degrees from Prayag Sangit Samiti Allahabad. She completed her B.A. Honours in Indian Music (Instrumental Sitar) from Daulat Ram College, Delhi University. Notably, she was honored with scholarships from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India in 2014, and the Sahitya Kala Parishad, Government of Delhi in 2012.
Dr. Veethika Tikoo Wali has achieved remarkable milestones in her career. As the first female Santoor player from Jammu & Kashmir, she has performed in over 50 international concerts across 10 countries. In India, she has mesmerized audiences in more than 100 concerts across 20 states. She has shared her knowledge and expertise with over 300 music enthusiasts, providing them with guidance for over 1500+ hours.
Recognizing her talent, she was honored with the 'Yuva Pratibha Award' by Padmabhushan Pt. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt in 2016 and received the 'Sur Shri' award from the Society for Action through Music, New Delhi in 2015. Dr. Veethika has also accompanied the late Padma Shri Pandit Bhajan Sopori Ji in several Santoor concerts held in France, Bosnia, Portugal, Belarus, Ukraine, Belgium, and more, as part of the International festivals organized by ICCR, Government of India on Republic Day.
Dr. Veethika Tikoo Wali's contributions to the field of Santoor have garnered widespread recognition both nationally and internationally, making her a respected figure in the world of Indian classical music.
