Learn to Play the Mridangam- Advanced Level

Students will work towards acquiring rhythmic expertise throughout the course duration. The following concepts will be covered:

• Advanced rhythmic patterns and techniques
• Improvisation techniques to learn creating new rhythms and their variations 
• The theory and mathematics behind Tala structure
• Concert-level Mridangam playing skills, keen observation, the art of stage presence and accompaniment
• Solo playing skills to exhibit the mastery of rhythm and technique through a series of improvisations and compositions by learning ‘Tani Avartanam’

About the Teacher: Pavan Masur has an impressive 8 years experience of teaching the Mridangam. He initially learnt Mridanga under Vid. H L Shivashankara Swami (AIR staff artist, Mysore). And is currently learning under the able guidance of Vid. Anoor Ananthakrishna Sharma.

Pavan is a recipient of the Karnataka Sangeeta Nruthya Academy scholarship. He accompanied the participants of “Sangeetha Yathra Season 2” (Carnatic classical vocal reality show) which was organised by “World Music Conservatory” in association with “Sri Sankara” channel and was telecasted in more than 80 countries.

He was awarded the “Best Mridangist” from Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha, Mysore. On the occasion of ‘Nadakishorotsava’ – 2018 (Youth Classical Music competition). He has shared the stage with several senior artists and has performed in various parts of India.
