Kuchipudi is a pre-eminent Indian classical dance form. It is a dance-drama performance art that originated in Kuchelapuram village of Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh, India. Similar to all other Indian classical dance forms, Kuchipudi takes its dance techniques and stagecraft from the ancient Hindu text - ‘Natya Shastra’. It was practiced as a part of the temple rituals and also by traveling bards. We find its mentions in the relics of the 10th-century copper inscriptions and in the 15th-century.
This course focuses on the basics of the dance form. Basic adavus are really important to begin learning and understanding Kuchipudi. These moves prepare a person’s body and mind to learn new techniques, as well as develop their stamina, and ability with leg movement or posture while dancing gracefully without making mistakes!
The basic posture is known as Aramandi. It means that you must start on your feet at least once before moving on to other positions or movements during any performance.
