The Advanced-level Kathak classes for aimed at training professional performers or learners with a seniority level of 4-5 years of practicing Kathak. The students will not only delve deeper into the intricacies of Kathak, rather, they will also learn to refine their stage performance skills. Sangita Chatterjee will evaluate the students’ dance skills and advise a suitable course of action for the course.

After learning Teeltaal and Jhaptaal at the beginner’s and intermediate levels, the advanced-level students will be introduced to Dhamar (14-beat time cycle), Chautaal (12-beat time cycle) and Rupak (7-beat time cycle).
The technical part and storytelling will go hand in hand in this course. Gradually the students will learn how to merge both. Also, the intricacies will increase as they move ahead in the course.
Kathak has a lot of laykari. They have a lot of permutations and combinations with the lay. The more they grow the more they learn the complicated Taals. Gradually, they will learn Bhajans and Thumris in Rupak, Dhamar, or Cautaal.
About the Teacher
Sangita Chatterjee, the disciple of Guru Smt. Vaswati Misra, is a young, dynamic, and eminent exponent of Kathak, from Lucknow Gharana. Sangita has emerged as a soloist of par excellence and has made her niche as a thinking dancer whose approach toward dance is beyond mere performative presentation.
She has orchestrated several dance programs that include a solo dance theatre production - "Yagyaseni" on Draupadi's life, a multi-dance style presentation - "Hridoy Majhe Bangla", - that she presented in the presence of the then President of India, Late Shri Pranav Mukherjee, Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, and other political dignitaries.
She has choreographed “Ramayan” in collaboration with Japanese dancers which she presented in Tokyo National Theatre, Japan. She has also traveled extensively to different countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, and America for her performances.
During the lockdown, she has also created two short films "Quest - A Lockdown Diary of a Dancer" and 'Mirage - A Lust for Life" which were also featured in INMOTION Dance Film Festival Chicago.
