Harmonica exponent Ashok Bhandari leads students in weekly 30-minute online lessons in the basics of handling the harmonica and breathing techniques. The harmonica is a popular solo and accompaniment instrument in many musical genres, and students have the opportunity to learn this unique skill from experienced and talented harmonica player Ashok Bhandari. This short-term course begins with learning the basics of handling the instrument and breathing exercises and control, the two most important aspects of playing the harmonica. Next, students learn basic alankars, which are ornamentation patterns played on the instrument, and how to play simple songs. After learning the basics and engaging in practice, students will also learn advanced breathing and handling techniques necessary for playing more complex compositions.
About the teacher: Ashok Bhandari began playing the harmonica as a young child and started winning awards in music by age eight. During his 35 year-long career he has performed and received awards from all over the world, and recently began passing down his knowledge through teaching. Bhandari studied music at Banaras Hindu University and trained under many talented musicians throughout his musical journey. Instructing harmonica students in India and abroad, Bhandari says teaching rejuvenates him and helps share the joy of togetherness. He is an exponent of the enduring sound of harmonica music, as well as a proponent of the health benefits of playing the harmonica.

Students must have a desire to learn the harmonica, their own harmonica to play, and time to commit to weekly 30-minute lessons, as well as individual practice outside of class. This course gives students basic skills and techniques they can build on by taking advanced music lessons, should they choose.
