This 1-on-1 online live course is for all beginners who aspire to take their first step in the world of Electric Bass. This course will begin with an overview of instrument anatomy wherein the instructor Shalini Mohan will help her students know the instrument, get comfortable with it, identifying each part and its importance. The course then progresses to musical notes and identifying them on the fretboard. Once these basics are mastered, the students will learn the basics of music theory including classification of time, pitch, and note values, a basic level of left/right hand rudimentaries and exercises, and left/right hand techniques.
Further, this course will cover more foundational information such as students will learn about scales (theory and practical use) and ear training. Finally, instructor Shalini will guide individuals in learning how to play simple songs on the Bass and how to compose interesting basslines. The student's choice of simple songs and the student's comfort zone will be considered by the instructor.
About the Instructor: Bangalore based musician Shalini Mohan began her musical journey studying the piano until her passion for music drove her to the bass guitar as well as playing the trumpet. She was awarded a diploma from the London College of Music with a distinction in Popular Vocals along with other high achiever awards in her other courses during her studies. Shalini is also the grand daughter of T. R. Mahalingam, the extremely well known Carnatic flutist, and has played many Carnatic concerts as a bassist.
Known for being an incredibly versatile performer and session musician, Shalini is highly adept in many styles, including Carnatic Fusion, Funk, Jazz, and Progressive Music. She has had an incredibly varied and exciting career in music, having been part of many different bands. She is currently the bassist and singer of the pop-rock band “Ginny & the Bottle”, part of “St.” the international Carnatic fusion band, Bangalore collective “Moksha All-Stars” and Hindustani jazz project known as “Projekt Maya”. She has also performed with acoustic folk-band “Allegro Fudge” and is a core member of “Lagori”, a folk-rock band from Bangalore.
