Nurtured in the temples and courts, Bharatanatyam has always been about divinity, grace, devotion, and expression. Are you too inspired to pick up learning this dance form from scratch? These classes designed by the highly-trained Bharatanatyam performer and instructor Dr. Preethi will focus on the Adavus, Shabdam, and Varna aspects of Bharatanatyam which involves rhythmic footwork, use of hand gestures, and understanding of body postures. Students will also be introduced to “Abhinaya” to delve into this expressive art form.

In this all-level course, students will be introduced to Adavus (a combination of footwork and hand gestures). They would be introduced to the concept of Laya (speed) and made to practice the Adavus in three speeds. Students will also be introduced to the concept of Jaati (Tishra and Chatushra), which forms the base for rhythmic footwork. The curriculum for this course is broken down below:

About the Teacher: Dr. Preeti has done her dance education in Bharatanatyam. She has completed her Junior, Senior, and Vidwat examinations from the Karnataka board of secondary education.
She has also achieved the 1st rank in the Shimoga district of Karnataka for the senior level Bharatanatyam exam, second place in the state-level Bharatanatyam exam, and has also performed in various events in India and abroad. Dr. Preethi has dedicated herself to teaching this traditional dance form to students around the globe.
