Q: How much time should a student devote to self-practice on a daily basis?

This course will require practice time outside of lessons. Time spent practicing may vary from 15 minutes per day to an hour, depending on a student’s level of interest. Students who wish to become professional singers will need more hours of practice per day using a different set of exercises and materials than students who are seeking to learn singing as a hobby. A detailed structure for home practice for each student will be discussed and explained during class.

Q: What if a student is unable to attend an upcoming class?

The student is required to inform the teacher about his absence from a particular session, two days prior to the class. In such a case, the teacher will reschedule the class and conduct the rescheduled class on or before the end (i.e. Saturday) of the ensuing week or such other time as may be mutually decided between the teacher and the student. In case the student misses to give two days prior notice about his absence to the teacher, then the decision to conduct another class for that student is completely based on the teacher’s discretion.

Q: How long will a teacher take to revert to students’ queries after class hours?

Students should get a response within 24 hours if the teacher is not preoccupied or traveling.

Q: What if the teacher wishes to reschedule a class?

He will also test your vocal skills to assess your proficiency level.
You can suggest a list of your favorite songs but your teacher will be the best person to decide which song will be suitable for you.
This course also includes voice training exercises and learning important vocal techniques to help you sing better.
Similarly, you will also learn about the taal and lay.
Before starting a song, your teacher will set the context by exploring the song’s background, including details about the songwriter, its meaning, and the original raga and taal.

About the Teacher

Ramanuj Dasgupta has been dedicated to music for fifty years. At the age of 23, he was selected to serve as a music teacher for an institution affiliated with Rabindra Bharati University in India. These years of experience have taught Dasgupta to accommodate students by getting to know their educational history, personal goals, strengths, and weaknesses, tailoring each lesson to meet their needs. Dasgupta’s musical career has lead him through the learning process of various genres and traditions. He mastered these techniques under the tutelage of many great instructors including Sri Manindra Chakroborty, famous lyricist Sri Gopal Dasgupta, renowned musical director Sri Sudhin Dasgupta, and classical maestro Pandit Amiya Ranjan Banerjee. Ramanuj Dasgupta is always continuing his musical education because he understands that mastering music is a never-ending endeavor. He has a deep expertise in Nazrul Geeti. Renowned artists such as Mohammed Rafi, Anup Jalota, Anuradha Paudwal, and Runa Laila have released Nazrul Geeti albums under his music direction.
