Sufi Music for Beginners is a course that takes place in one weekly 60-minute online session over the duration of 24 weeks. Designed with beginners in mind, instructor Dr. Neeta Pandey Negi has created a diverse and interactive lesson plan perfect for hobbyists and professionals alike. Students of all backgrounds are welcome to enroll and may expect upon successful completion to be well-prepared to perform, as well as enroll in the next level of Sufi music education.

This course will begin with the foundation, including a detailed description of the genre with a brief history. Next, instructor Dr. Neeta Pandey Negi will work one-on-one with each student observing their voice and developing voice culture. Students will learn the ragas that songs are based on along with the Riyaz techniques that suit each students’ voice. Throughout the duration of this course, Dr. Negi will conduct assessments to ensure each student is improving their skill and growing their repertoire in a timely manner.
About Dr. Neeta Pandey Negi: Dr. Neeta Pandey Negi is part of a Jugalbandi comprised of herself and her sister, Dr. Jagriti. Together, they perform Sufiyana Qalams, Qawwali, Kaafi as well as Ghazals, all in traditional style. After achieving her doctorate in Sufi Music from Delhi University, Dr. Neeta Pandey Negi has devoted her professional and personal career to spreading the message of the Sufi saints. She has learned Indian Classical Music from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya and from Smt. Ketaki Banerjee of Kirana Gharana, Ghazal Gayaiki from Smt. Charanjeet Soni and is currently learning Sufiyana Gayaki under the guidance of her guru Ustaad Iqbaal Ahmed Khan, Khalifa of Dilli Gharana.

As a beginner’s course, there are no prerequisites required before enrollment. Students will need a diary with a proper index during the course, a pencil and pen, and a tanpura (electronic is acceptable). Dr. Neeta Pandey Negi also requests those enrolling are wearing comfortable clothing and prepared to take lessons sitting on the floor or on a hard surface. It is advisable that students ensure they have not eaten a full meal before participating in a session.
