Do you wish to experience the potential of this traditional Carnatic percussion instrument? These classes are designed to provide students with an introduction to the basic rhythm system in Carnatic music and the fingering techniques used in playing the Kanjira. Through these classes, students will gain an understanding of the style of Kanjira playing and the role of the Kanjira player in Carnatic music. By learning the technical aspects of rhythm, students will also develop the ability to appreciate the nuances and depth of rhythm in music in general.

About the Teacher: Sunaad Anoor hails from a family of musicians and is carrying forward the legacy as the fifth generation musician. He has been groomed under the guidance of his Gurus, father Vidwan Anoor Dattatreya Sharma, uncle, Vidwan Anoor Ananthakrishna Sharma, and cousin, Vinod Shyam Anoor.
Sunaad has been awarded 1st place for Kanjira in the AIR National level competition in 2012. He is also an AIR-grade artist. He has received the ITC Sangeetha Research Academy Award. He also won Kalavanta 2015. Sunaad has received the T A Harihara Award from Krishna Gana Sabha, Chennai and the Raga Laya Prabha Award from Sri Ram Lalitha Kala Mandir.
Sunaad has shared the stage with several esteemed musicians in and around India, Singapore, and the USA. He has toured with the Amithias project and played with the prestigious HR big band at Frankfurt Jazz Festival, in Germany.
