Harmonium Lessons for intermediate level

Q: How much time should a student enrolling for this course practice everyday?

This course on classical singing lessons for beginners will require practice time outside of the lessons given during the classes. Time spent practising may vary from 15 minutes per day to an hour, depending on a student’s level of interest. Students who wish to become professional musicians will need more hours of practice per day using a different set of exercises and materials than students who are seeking to learn music as a hobby. A detailed structure of practice for each student will be discussed and explained during class.

Q: What if a student is unable to attend an upcoming class?

The student is required to inform the teacher about his absence from a particular session, two days prior to the class. In such a case, the teacher will reschedule the class and conduct the rescheduled class on or before the end (i.e. Saturday) of the ensuing week or such other time as may be mutually decided between the teacher and the student. In case the student misses to give two days prior notice about his absence to the teacher, then the decision to conduct another class for that student is completely based on teacher’s discretion.

Q: How long will the teacher take to revert to a query raised after class hours?

Students should get a response within 24 hours, if the teacher is not preoccupied or traveling.

Q: What if the teacher wishes to reschedule a class?

In case the teacher is unavailable for the scheduled class, he/she will inform the students two days prior to the class. The teacher will conduct the rescheduled class on or before the end (i.e. Saturday) of the ensuing week or such other time as may be mutually decided between the teacher and the student.

Intermediate Harmonium picks up where instructor Kundalkar’s previous course, Basic Harmonium, leaves off. Beginning with a review of basic concepts like swara and taals, this course proceeds to include Hindustani Raga Sangeet and an in-depth overview of the raga melodic system, including several compositions and bandishes. Instructor Suyog Kundalkar will guide students through the many advanced harmonium techniques and skills that set apart the beginners from the professionals. Finally, Kundalkar will impart the qualities of performing as an accompanist, as well as a solo artist, in a professional setting.

About Suyog Kundalkar: Suyog Kundalkar is an established harmonium player with years of experience and accolades. Kundalkar has been graded as a B High artist of the All India Radio and Doordarshan, and has been honored as an impanelled artiste on the Indian Council for Cultural Relations. In addition to a Bachelor’s Degree in Music from Lalit Kala Kendraa of the University of Pune, Kundalkar has also won many awards for his musical contributions, including ‘U.Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar’ given by Sangeet Natak Academy, ‘GaanSaraswati Kishori Amonkar Sangatkar Purskar’ from Gaansaraswati Kishori Amonkar, ‘Pt. Givindrao Tembe Sangatkar Puraskar’ by Gandharva Mahavidyalay, ‘Pt.Bandubhaiyya Choghule Smruti Puraskar’ (Indore) and many more. Today, Kundalkar serves on the panel of Lalit Kala Kendra (the Centre for Performing Arts at Pune University) as a Guru, while also teaching students from across the globe.
