Banerjee’s harmonium course will include the intermediate level topics of harmonium music, including advanced approaches toward specific raagas and taals, complex finger movement exercises, understanding of the formation of Chakradhar and complex tehais, the application of Jaati in playing, the basics of slow vistaar playing and more. Students will excel with one-on-one guidance from instructor Banerjee, harmonium exponent.
Successful completion of this course will ready any student to enroll in the next, advanced level, harmonium course. Suvendu Banerjee’s extensive online teaching experience makes him the ideal harmonium instructor for all varieties of learning styles. Banerjee believes in the power that music has over the mind and soul, believing that “After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.”
ABOUT THE TEACHER: Belonging to “Gaya Gharana” (heritage), which is the pathfinder of solo harmonium playing in India, Suvendu Banerjee has been rated a B-High grade artist of Prasar Bharati All India Radio as well as being impaneled with the Indian Council of Cultural Relations. Banerjee’s 25 years of musical experience all started at the young age of seven, when he began to learn harmonium from his grandfather Pandit Deb Kumar Banerjee. Since that time, Banerjee has studied under guru Pandit Deb Kumar Banerjee, his ancestor and Dadaguru Sangeetacharya Montu Banerjee and is currently studying under Pandit Shyamal Chatterjee, the renowned sitar maestro of Senia-Maihar Gharana and senior most disciple of Bharat Ratna Pandit Ravi Shankar. Suvendu Banerjee completed his M.Sc in Advanced Computer Science from the University of Manchester in 2011. Afterward, in 2013, he stood first at the state level competition organized by the Government of West Bengal in the Solo Harmonium Category. Now Banerjee is passing on this timeless tradition of solo harmonium music to students across the globe.

As an intermediate level course, students will need to complete the Harmonium Basics course before enrollment, or be able to demonstrate knowledge of basic harmonium practices. Students will need to ensure they have the time to commit not only to the online courses but independent practice time at home as well in order to be successful in this course. Students will need their own instrument, pen and paper for taking notes, and a computer to participate in this course.
