Q: How much time should a student enrolling for this course practice everyday?

Students should practice a minimum of 30 minutes every day. If they can devote more time to practice, they will learn better and faster.

Q: What if a student is unable to attend an upcoming class?

The student is required to inform the teacher about his absence from a particular session, two days prior to the class. In such a case, the teacher will reschedule the class and conduct the rescheduled class on or before the end (i.e. Saturday) of the ensuing week or such other time as may be mutually decided between the teacher and the student. In case the student misses to give two days prior notice about his absence to the teacher, then the decision to conduct another class for that student is completely based on teacher’s discretion.

Q: What if the teacher wishes to reschedule a class?

In case the teacher is unavailable for the scheduled class, he/she will inform the students two days prior to the class. The teacher will conduct the rescheduled class on or before the end (i.e. Saturday) of the ensuing week or such other time as may be mutually decided between the teacher and the student.

Q: Can students of all age enroll to this course?

Students aged 8 or above can join this course.

Q: How long will the teacher take to revert to a query raised after class hours?

The teacher will try to revert back to queries raised after class hours within a 24 hour period.

About the Course

The classes will acquaint students with different styles of Carnatic singing. The concepts and their application is distributed over a duration of 24 weeks and cover the following techniques and concepts:

Saralivarisai or the basic Sargam exercises to enhance vocal skills
Jantavarisai or the Sargam exercises including double notes to enhance vocal clarity and dynamics
Melsthayi or the technique to enhance vocal range
Thattuvarisai or the technique to sing combinations of high and low notes
Alankarams or exercises to sing different combinations of Swaras
8 simple songs or Geetams
Keerthanams
Advanced level songs or Varnams

About the Teacher: Sriram Iyer has learned Carnatic music for an impressive 20 years at Bhartiya Music and Arts Society, Mumbai. He then pursued advanced studies under the tutelage of Alamelu Mani, winner of the Sangeeta Natak Academy Award.

Sriram Iyer has been a performing artist at All India Radio, Mumbai division, and has given various classical concerts globally. Classical, Bollywood, Sufi, and Fusion, Iyer is well known for his unique ability to blend various genres of music.

The RAPA award winner, Sriram Iyer has served on the jury of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, a reality show on Zee TV. He performed playback singing for films including IQBAL, Umar, Udaan, No One Killed Jessica, Shor in the City, and many more.

Iyer has composed and sung title tracks for many serials including Shaabaash India, Titan Antakshari, Hero Honda Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, Lil Champs & Rock N Roll Family for Zee TV, and also Zinda Dil for Zee Next. Times Music launched Iyer’s album ‘OM- a fusion’ which was nominated for the Sangeet awards held in San Francisco.
