Q: What if a student is unable to attend an upcoming class?

The student is required to inform the teacher about his/her absence from a particular session, two days prior to the class. In such a case, the teacher will reschedule the class and conduct the rescheduled class on or before the end (i.e. Saturday) of the ensuing week or such other time as may be mutually decided between the teacher and the student. In case the student misses to give two days prior notice about his/her absence to the teacher, then the decision to conduct another class for that student is completely based on the teacher’s discretion.

Q: How long will a teacher take to revert to students’ queries after class hours?

Students should get a response within 24 hours if the teacher is not preoccupied or traveling.

Q: What if the teacher wishes to reschedule a class?

If the teacher is unavailable for the scheduled class, he/she will inform the students two days before the class. Q: How much time should a student devote to self-practice on a daily basis?

This course will require practice time outside of lessons. Time spent practicing may vary from 15 minutes per day to an hour, depending on a student’s level of interest. Students who wish to become professional singers will need more hours of practice per day using a different set of exercises and materials than students who are seeking to learn singing as a hobby. A detailed structure for home practice for each student will be discussed and explained during class.

About the Course

The highlights of the course include -

7 Alankaras will be taught in this course. Alankaras serve as a vital component of practice routines, laying the groundwork for more advanced repertoire and improvisational aspects of Carnatic vocal performance.
2 small songs or Geetams will be taught. They are simple melodies with relatively uncomplicated rhythmic patterns, making them an ideal starting point for beginners and intermediate students of Carnatic music.

The foundation course is broken into three parts. Learners can check out the first level - Foundation in Carnatic Vocals.

About the Teacher

Ila Sangeetha Diliip commenced vocal training under Smt. H N Rajalakshmi and continued under Smt. Pushpa Srinivasan and Smt. Dr. Sukanya Prabhakar for 10 years. Ila Sangeetha is also a competent Carnatic violinist having trained under Shri. H.K Narasimha Murthy for a few years and currently performing Vocal and Violin duet concerts with her husband K J Diliip.

Ila Sangeetha has been performing vocal and violin concerts for top organizations in India. Her skill has come through in challenging concerts such as Pancha Gana Raga Tana Pallavi, Navaragakshara RTP, and the 128-unit per cycle tala Simhanandana tala RTP.

In June 2017, Ila Sangeetha represented India in Uganda, Tanzania, and South Africa and performed as an Indian Cultural Delegate and received tremendous appreciation from esteemed dignitaries. She has also performed and given lectures in many other countries such as Canada, France, Switzerland, Italy, and London.
